Whether it’s a window box, a roof terrace, a balcony or a private or communal garden, your outdoor space at home or work could be a vitally important place for local wildlife
All living things need food, water and safe environments to reproduce and move about in. It’s amazing how many of the habitats that they use can fit into your space, granting you a ring-side seat to your very own wildlife show.
We’ve listed the different types of habitat that can support our Spotlight Species and thousands of others. You can pick a very easy one, like a bare earth patch, easy, like a compost heap, moderate, like a bird feeder, hard, like a bat box, or very hard, like a green roof.
Browse our suggestions to learn a bit about what they look like, how they help wildlife and which Spotlight Species they support. Children should always be supervised by a responsible adult when undertaking any of these activities and it is always a good idea to have someone else help you to minimise the risk of harm or damage.
Good luck, have fun, and remember to download our app and record your new habitat onto the map once you’ve created it.
